IES Marques de Santillana

We are a high school from a rural middle class with around 850 pupils from 12 to 18 years old and 85 teachers. We teach ESO and Bachillerato in two turns, diurnal and nocturnal. We are specialized in humanistic, scientists and technological studies.

Our school is close to Madrid city and, although Colmenar Viejo is a rural area, our pupils don’t know the professional activities in the area, such as ganadery and agriculture, and in many cases don’t enjoy of the possibilities of living next to a natural environment for this reason we want that our pupils know and learn to take care of the surrounding environment.

We are a bilingual and STEAM center, and we have great experience in Scientific and Technological areas. Our school has experience in the Comenius projects. We participated in a Comenius with France for two years, and we have an exchange of pupils with the North of Italy since 2000.

We are running a KA-229 ERASMUS + project “WE ARE WHERE WE LIVE?¡” for two years. We are studying how, our natural environment the National Park Sierra de Guadarrama, influences our personality and our style of life. We have three partners: a school from Kosice (Slovakia), another of Hamburg (Germany) and the last one in Catania (Italy).

The key person in charge of running the project in the school is Silvia Forga Zamora. She is a technology and IT teacher, head of the Department, civil servant, teacher in the school since 2000, and with final place in the center. She has been the Erasmus coordinator for three years. She has experience in Erasmus KA-229 projects and Etwinning projects.
